Ahhh that half sweet half pungent smell of the notorious Loctite. We have all been using the stuff for years on everything from Harley Davidson's to the craziest of industrial machines, and down to the smallest of electronics. There may be many brands of thread locker but one brand sticks out and is a house hold name, Loctite
So with millions of users daily, how can this goliath of a brand have such a secret? The answer simply lies in advertisement and product saturation of the market. Currently if one is to google Loctite or Thread locker countless brands come flooding in the search fields overloading the senses. Locktite alone manufactures more than 20 different blends for all different applications.
The big secret lies in a newer call the "QuikStix" series. This product is the time old Loctite in a glue stick form in the common Blue / Red / Green strengths. Now I can hear the readers now, "Gel thread locker has been around for ages" . It has, but its not the same nor is it one to de throne this king of the thread locking world!
Why is this product worth the praise? It has a few key features that make it a hands down winner.
#1 - Have you ever been laying under a car and tried to put liquid thread locker on a vertical bolt? If you have you know the frustration trying to squeeze the tube just enough but not too much just to make a mess and still not get the locker applied in the proper location where the nut will end up. The Stick excels here just twist the applicator and dab some on. This product eliminates the challenge of vertical application
#2 - No mess! Often times in between applications you need to set the thread locker down. With a full bottle / tube of liquid you often end up with dripping or with a low bottle your tapping and shaking it to the nozzle again wasting time and creating a mess. The QuikStik is always ready to go and does not leak.
#3 - Working time, the stick products have a longer working time that allows you to apply the product and re torque or move the bolt with more time before setting up. I have had some issues in the past with liquids setting up so quick that by the time I was able to do the final torque pass or get the parts aligned that the thread locker bond was broken by the final tightening. This is what originally sent me down the path of finding a slower working thread locker and I came across this killer product.
I highly recommend these products as they are now my first thread locker to grab for 95% of applications. Below you can find links to these great products.
